Formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products are established by the EPA in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

Phthalates are compounds used to achieve flexibility in plastic products. Vinyl flooring manufacturers stating their products are “Phthalate Free” have found safer non-phthalate plasticizer alternatives for production, and are pledging that any recycled content is also free of harmful phthalates. Appalachian Hardwood Verified Sustainable assures consumers that lumber and products sourced from the region are growing 2.4 times the rate of harvest and mortality combined. This is based on US Forest Service Forest Inventory Analysis.

Greenguard
Greenguard is a voluntary third-party program that test for chemicals and Volatile Organic Compounds in households products including flooring and furniture. Products that have achieved Greenguard Certification are scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure. There are both Greenguard and Greenguard GOLD certifications.
ASSURE Certified
This cerification applies to WPC or SPC flooring construction and tests for indoor air quality, rigorous performance, and low heavy metals & ortho-phthalates content.
