For Kim Wilson, creator of the popular blog Sand & Sisal, her love of home design and ocean life produced a passion for coastal home décor that carries over to her DIY projects and artfully designed spaces. Kim’s goal of empowering readers to conquer fears and complete practical renovations is always present in her helpful tips and personal home improvement chronicles.
Recently,
Kim replaced the carpeting throughout the upstairs bedrooms of her home with hardwood flooring and used Twenty & Oak to help guide her new flooring shopping process from start to finish. After exploring the website and online showroom for inspiration, Kim was drawn to the smoked French oak of
Tuscany Flooring by Palmetto Road. In addition to the gorgeous visual, her choice was guided by her household factors as well as regional climate:
"Why am I choosing French oak? French oak has a smaller grain pattern. It is stronger than American red or white oak. It is less likely to expand and contract noticeably which is a nice trait for flooring to have, especially living in humid, coastal Virginia. The boards in the Tuscany collection come in 7.5″ x 75″ lengths. They are 1/2″ thick, with rolled edges and ends, are wire brushed, smoked, and antiqued. To top it off, they have a 50-year residential warranty! The flooring is ideal for high traffic, kids, and pets, all of which we certainly have."
After narrowing down her two favorite lighter, coastal flooring color choices that would complement and blend seamlessly with the existing oak floors in her home,
Nola (left) and
Fondi (right),
Kim ordered free Tuscany Flooring samples to help make the final decision:
Once she created design boards to help visualize the rooms, Kim
used Twenty & Oak to connect with a local retailer to see and purchase flooring. Recognizing a favorite local retailer on her list, Kim visited
Esprit Decor to see the Tuscany Collection in person and get expertise from a flooring specialist:

Ultimately, Kim and her family decided that Tuscany Flooring in Nola coordinated perfectly with her bedrooms and the rest of the home. Having top-notch installation professionals helped the entire process run smoothly and
Kim also used Twenty & Oak’s learning center and article about selecting the right flooring retailer to help guide the journey.

Kim was beyond ready to say goodbye to the old carpet in her master bedroom and say hello to smoked, antiqued, and wire brushed French oak with an ultra-low gloss finish and a 50-year home warranty! In her
Master Bedroom Sneak Peek blog, Kim describes how the flooring installers took the time to prep the subfloors to make sure that they would be level, as well as letting the new Palmetto Road flooring acclimate to the home for 3-5 days before installation. The dazzling master bedroom results could not have turned out better:

As for the rest of Kim’s split-level 2nd floor, her
Upstairs Home Tour blog showcases the new coastal chic flooring and incredible transformation featuring her Hamptons decorating style. With plenty of sunlight shining through, Kim used the natural hardwood flooring to balance the dark, rich navy paint for a cozy ambiance:
